A man has been detained for questioning following an assault on Bakers Road in Gurranabraher on the north side of Cork city.

Gardaí and the emergency services attended the scene shortly before 12:30am on Monday.

A man in his 40s was conveyed to hospital for treatment for his injuries. He suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A man in his 30s is being held for questioning in connection with the incident. He is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 in a Garda Station in the Cork Division.

He can be held for up to 24 hours before being released or charged. Investigations are ongoing.
