Garda watchdog investigating death of man in custody

An investigation has been launched by the Garda watchdog after the death of a man in Garda custody.

The man, who was in his 30s, became unresponsive while in a cell in a Dublin Garda station on Saturday.

Despite attempts to resuscitate him by gardaí and medical personnel, the man was later pronounced dead.

The matter has been referred to Fiosrú, which says its team have attended the scene, and investigations are ongoing.

As the matter is now under investigation, Fiosrú said it cannot make any further comment.
