Two men have been arrested following what police have termed a “serious altercation” in north Belfast.

Police said a knife was among weapons involved in the incident in a communal area of flats in the Crumlin Road area in the early hours of Friday.

A police spokesperson said shortly after midnight officers received a report of two men attacking each other with weapons at Brookfield Mill flats.

They said upon arrival at the scene the officers located a man armed with a knife and with an injury to his head, and deployed a taser.

“The man, aged 44, was brought under control after officers deployed a Conducted Energy Device and arrested on suspicion of possession of a blade or point in a public place, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, assault and disorderly behaviour,” they said.

“A second man, aged 46, was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

“As is normal procedure, the Police Ombudsman’s Office has been informed of the incident.”

They added: “Detectives would ask anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information which could assist with their enquiries to contact them in Musgrave on 101, quoting reference number 47 05/06/26.

“A report can be submitted online using the non-emergency reporting form via http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport.”
