Two men in their 20s and two juveniles were arrested and charged after a man in his 40s was hospitalised following a physical altercation between a number of individuals in Portlaoise, Co Laois.

The incident occurred at St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Stradbally Road, Portlaoise, on Sunday.

Following the incident, the man in his 40s was brought to hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.

The four individuals who were arrested were since charged to appear before a special sitting of Portlaoise District Court on Monday morning.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact them.

Anyone who was in the area of St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise, between noon and 1:30pm on Sunday, and who may have any information about the incident, is asked to contact investigating gardaí.

In particular, anyone who was present at the time, with camera footage (including mobile phone and dash-cam footage) is asked to make it available.
