A 21-year-old man has died following a serious assault in Dublin city centre.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Clarendon Street, near Grafton Street, at around 3am, where a man was found in a serious condition.

He was taken to St. James's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Gardaí have cordoned off the area for a technical examination and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
