A motorist was caught driving 161 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N10, Danesfort in Co Kilkenny.

92 people were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol over the Bank Holiday weekend.

In excess of 2,250 drivers were detected for speeding offences for the first three days of the operation.

Other high speeds include a driver going 117km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R364, Ballyglass South, Williamstown, in Co Galway.

One motorist was going 93km/h in a 50km/h zone on the N21, Abbeyfeale East, Abbeyfeale in Co Limerick, while a motorist was driving 81km/h in a 60km/h zone on the R397, Keenagh, in Co Longford.

Over 270 drivers were detected holding a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.

The total number of fatalities on Irish roads to date this year is 70.
