Sinn Féin have called for the Dáil to be recalled from its Easter break.

Party leader Mary Lou McDonald accused the government of abandoning households as they struggle to meet the rising cost of energy.

The conflict in the Middle East continues to push up fuel and home heating oil prices.

Speaking at Sinn Féin's Easter commemoration in Kildare Town earlier on Saturday, McDonald said families are in desperate need of help.

"The price of home heating oil has now doubled, and it’s just an extraordinary burden on 750,000 households, that’s three-quarters of a million households, and the government’s half measures have not worked.

"We need further intervention, so today Pádraig Mac Lochlainn, our Chief Whip, has written to the Ceann Comhairle asking for a recall of the Dáil."
