A young Irish reality TV star is being hailed a hero after rescuing a number of people from Australia's Bondi Beach.

15 people were killed and a number injured in Sydney when two gunmen - a father and son -  opened fire with an assortment of weapons.

Nathan Gallagher, from Burtonport, Co Donegal, was on a boat close to the beach when the attack unfolded.

He put his own safety behind him and drove his boat close to the shore to take a number of people away from the sea.

He posted a picture of a number of terrified people who were taken to safety on board his boat just moments after the horrific attack.

The social media post said: "Brought people off the beach/water and headed out to sea. Terrifying and disgusting behaviour."

Mr Gallagher's mother, Noreen Gallagher, praised her son.

A post on social media said: "So proud of you. You thought about people's safety before your own."

Mr Gallagher, who works in the yacht business, has appeared on the reality TV show Below Deck Mediterranean since 2024.
