A woman in her 80s has died after a road crash in Co Cavan.

The collision, involving two cars, occurred near Crosskeys in Carrickatober at about 3.30pm on Tuesday.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other driver – a woman in her 40s – was taken to Cavan General Hospital for assessment.

The road has reopened after investigations by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson said: “Any road users who may have camera footage (including dashcam) and were travelling in the area between 3pm and 3.30pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardai.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049 436 8800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda station.”
