A man in his 40s has been seriously injured following an alleged assault in Cork City on Monday night.

Gardaí in Anglesea Street are appealing for witnesses in relation to the alleged assault at Quaker Street, Cork City.

Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene following a report of the incident, which occurred at approximately 10pm.

The man in his 40s was conveyed to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The scene is preserved for technical examination.

The road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.
