Mother seeks review after daughter (25) died in Cork and cites alleged garda negligence

High Court Reporter

The distressed mother of a 25-year-old woman, who has died, will next week seek leave of the High Court to judicially review the decisions of the Commissioner of An Garda Síochána and the Office of the Cork City Coroner surrounding the death of her daughter.

Mr Justice David Nolan  told Angelic Redic, of Brookpark, Kilcorney, Mallow, Co Cork, that while he could not grant her leave to bring her legal challenge, he would allow her to do so on notice to both the Commissioner and Coroner.

Ms Redic, representing herself, told the court in written evidence that her daughter, Mary, had died in suspicious circumstances in September last year, and she was seeking judicial review against the gardaí on grounds of alleged unlawful detention and negligence.

She is also seeking to quash the determination of the Cork City Coroner at what she described as an extremely short inquest on May 1st last, which, she alleges, had not been based on verified facts.

Ms Redic claimed her daughter had been found dead in her apartment at Douglas Street, Cork, in what she described as “untimely, avoidable and extremely suspicious circumstances.”

Further written evidence is expected to be opened to the court by Ms Redic next Tuesday when her application returns for consideration on notice to the Commissioner, the office of the Cork City Coroner and Cork City Council.
