A man has been charged after a teenager was stabbed in Co Down.

The victim, aged in his late teens, sustained several stab wounds to his face and head in the incident in the Dundrum Road area of Newcastle on Friday evening.

Police received a report shortly before 7.45 pm that the teenager had been stabbed with a blade.

Two men – one aged 25 and the other 16 – were arrested following the incident.

The 25-year-old was later charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place. He is due to appear in Downpatrick Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

The teenage suspect was released on bail to allow for further police inquiries.
