Council to clean Dublin 'cherry tomato bridge' as landmark goes viral

Dublin City Council is urging people visiting the "cherry tomato bridge" to stop wasting food.

The bridge has become one of Dublin's hottest tourist attractions after a viral video.

During the cold snap, passersby noticed frozen tomatoes on Drumcondra Bridge in the north of the capital.

However, the tomatoes were then knocked off the bridge on Monday — leading to many sharing their heartbreak at the ending of the shrine, with Dublin City Council since saying that they plan on cleaning and inspecting the site on a daily basis.

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said: "Dublin City Council are aware of food being presented on Drumcondra bridge and will be cleaning and inspecting the site daily.

"It is asked that food is not discarded and wasted in this manner."

Visitors have taken to social media to document their trips to the area, with it becoming a viral trend.

Droves of people living in the Dublin area (and the chronically online) turned up on the canal bridge to see the spectacle first-hand.

The bridge in question, Binns Bridge on Drumcondra Road, lies a short walk from Croke Park, between Le Petit Breton and the Royal Canal Way.
