Status yellow and orange warnings for rain, snow and ice remain in place for the majority of the country this morning.

Local authorities are working to clear snow, with the warnings expiring at 5pm this evening.

A total of 28,000 homes, farms and businesses are without power as a result of the cold weather event affecting several counties across the country.

The worst affected areas are Limerick, Tipperary, Kilkenny, Carlow, Laois and Wicklow.

ESB Networks crews are currently restoring power where safe to do so - and information about outages and restoration times is available on powercheck.ie.

Public transport and airports are set to be impacted by the weather. Shannon Airport is currently under a status orange snow and ice warning.

Eight counties are under an orange warning for snow and ice, while Cork, Kerry and Waterford are in an orange rain and snow alert.

Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Louth, Meath, Westmeath and Connacht are under a yellow warning for snow and ice, with Wexford under a yellow rain and snow warning.

Met Éireann has warned of "significant accumulations of snow", mainly in Munster and parts of south Leinster.

There will also be sleet and heavy rain in coastal areas.

While the current warnings are due to expire at 5pm, Met Éireann has warned that Monday will be "bitterly cold".

"Bitterly cold tomorrow with widespread frost and lying snow. There'll be sunshine and scattered wintry showers of hail, sleet and snow. Some thunder is possible too. Top temperatures generally ranging from zero to +5 degrees but staying below freezing over snow-fields."
