Cork Airport celebrated its three millionth passenger of 2024 on Friday.

Dr Muhammad Asim arrived on Ryanair flight FR3732 from Edinburgh which touched down shortly before 12:30.

Dr Asim was met on arrival by airport management and presented with a bottle of champagne and a luxury hamper from Cork Airport Duty Free to celebrate the milestone. Dr Asim, who lives in Cork, commutes regularly to Edinburgh for his work as an anaesthetist.

2024 has been a momentous year for the airport, Cork Airport said.

It said it has become the airport of choice for consumers from across the South of Ireland and the traditional catchment area of Munster has extended outwards to incorporate counties in south Leinster such as Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois, Offaly, Wexford, and Kildare.

Celebrating Cork Airport’s three million passenger milestone, Kenny Jacobs, daa chief executive, said: “What a year it has been for Cork Airport. Breaking the three million passenger mark today is the cherry on top of a brilliant 2024, which included several great new route announcements, solid growth in passenger traffic, innovative sustainability initiatives, the opening of a new café/wine bar and acknowledging the significant contribution the airport makes to the Irish economy.

"Cork Airport is the fastest growing airport in Ireland and I'm extremely proud of the great work that the team in Cork are doing in driving that growth.

Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be an even busier and better year for Cork Airport and it will continue to enjoy the fullest support of daa Group in pursuing that ambitious growth strategy."
