Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following a fatal road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian, in Ballinrobe, Co Mayo, that occurred on Thursday.

Shortly after 6:30pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident at Main Street, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo.

The pedestrian (a man aged in his 60’s) was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.

His body has been removed to Mayo General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

The scene is preserved for technical examination. The road is currently closed with local diversions in place.

A man (aged in his 30’s) has been arrested in connection with the incident, and has since been released without charge.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling in the area between 6pm and 7pm are asked to make this footage available to investigating gardaí.
