250 new jobs announced for Co Leitrim medtech facility

Medtech company Freudenberg Medical is to create 250 new jobs at a newly expanded facility in Carrick on Shannon.

The company currently employs over 1,000 people in Ireland, and is the largest employer in Co Leitrim.

The company said recruitment for the new positions is now underway, with a focus on engineering, research and development, manufacturing operations and support services positions.

Freudenberg Medical is a global contract design and manufacturing partner to the medical device and biopharma industry with operations in medtech hubs across the US, Europe, Asia and Costa Rica.

Dr Mohsen Sohi, chief executive of the Freudenberg Group, officially opened the newly expanded facility on Thursday.

In 2023, the company also expanded its facility in Galway and announced 100 new jobs there.

"Ireland has established a world-renowned reputation in the life sciences sector and holds strategic importance within Freudenberg Medical's global network. With a 25-year history in the country, this latest investment further enhances our world-class operations here," Dr Ostwald said.

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke, also welcomed the announcement, saying that he has "no doubt there will be a wealth of skilled professionals available" to fill the positions.
