Yellow and orange weather warnings have been issued to cover all counties in the Republic as Strom Gerrit makes landfall in Ireland.

The storm was named by the UK Met Office shortly before midday on Tuesday, with conditions set to deteriorate on Tuesday evening.

A yellow warning for rain previously issued to just six counties in the south and west has now been updated to become a yellow wind and rain warning for the entire country.

Met Éireann said there will be heavy rain overnight on Tuesday, followed by heavy showers on Wednesday which may lead to localised flooding.

"Strong southerly winds overnight, veering southwesterly tomorrow, in conjunction with spring tides, may lead to coastal flooding," the forecaster added.

A separate orange rainfall alert has also been issued for Kerry and West Cork.

Both alerts will commence at 8pm on Tuesday and remain in place until midnight on Thursday.
