Weekend rain warning issued for three southern counties

A yellow alert for rain has been issued for three counties in the south of the country.

Cork, Waterford and Wexford will be placed under the warning from 6am to 6pm on Sunday, with Met Éireann warning of potential localised flooding and travel disruptions.

A gale warning has also been issued for the west coast on Saturday, covering Mizen Head to Slyne Head to Malin Head from 10am to 9pm.

A similar warning will also be in place for the south and east coast, from Malin Head to Wicklow Head to Valentia and the Irish Sea on Sunday.

The yellow warning will commence at 11am and remain in place until midnight on Monday.

The forecaster predicts the weekend will get off to a chilly start on Saturday, but with large dry spells of hazy sunshine.

Cloud will build in the southwest as the day progresses, with outbreaks of rain coming from the Atlantic, and highest temperatures in the region of 11 to 16 degrees.

Sunday will bring scattered showers across the country, and highs of 17 to 19 degrees.
