Pirates Of The Caribbean producer confirms talks with Johnny Depp for new film

Pirates Of The Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed he is in talks with actor Johnny Depp to make a sixth film in the franchise.

The series, which features Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, has so far seen five feature films, with the last being Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017.

Speaking at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Bruckheimer told US outlet Deadline: “We’re talking to Johnny, we’re working on a screenplay, and hopefully we can get this done.”

It comes after English actor Orlando Bloom, who plays Will Turner in the Disney franchise, told ITV’s This Morning last year that he was keen to get the cast back together for a new film.

Asked if more Pirates Of The Caribbean films were possible, the 49-year-old said: “Well, I don’t know, I can’t say anything at the moment because I really don’t know, but there’s definitely availability.

“I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like, I personally think it’d be great to get the band back together, that would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we’ll see where it lands.”

It comes after Depp appeared at San Diego Comic-Con dressed as Ebenezer Scrooge, the character he will play in the upcoming Ebenezer film, which is due to be released in November this year.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean series has seen five feature films, The Curse Of The Black Pearl (2003); Dead Man’s Chest (2006); At World’s End (2007); On Stranger Tides (2011); and Dead Men Tell No Tales.

A short film, Pirates Of The Caribbean: Tales Of The Code: Wedlocked (2011), has also been released.

The series is based on the Disneyland attraction of the same name, and follows the adventures of Captain Jack Sparrow. It has also spawned a number of video games.
