Charli XCX steps onto film set with Vincent Cassel in new music video

Brat star Charli XCX steps onto a film set with French actor Vincent Cassel in the new music video for her latest single, Camera.
The track is the latest offering from her seventh studio album Music, Fashion, Film – which will be released on July 24.
The black and white video, directed by Charli’s long-time collaborator Aidan Zamiri, sees the chart-topper sitting atop a camera dolly and filming the French star act out the aftermath of a fiery car crash.
It opens with the renowned actor, 59, speaking angrily down a phone as a film crew apply make-up and blood to his face before he steps onto the set of a wreckage.
The star – known for films such as Ocean’s Twelve, One Wild Moment and the 2014 remake of Beauty And The Beast – repeatedly acts out his gory death in the almost three-minute-long video.
Charli, 33, later emerges wearing a floral shirt and matching capri trousers as she is wheeled in atop a camera, and gestures towards Cassel with a finger gun as she sings about the risks of creativity.
Cassel re-enacts the scene yet again, falling to the floor as blood pours out his mouth, before being interrupted by a technical fault and storming off set to sit in a director’s chair.
The video concludes with another glimpse of Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, as she remains seated on the camera dolly while singing along to the electronic-sounding track.
The singer, known for songs including Boom Clap and I Love It, thanked “everyone who made this happen” as she announced the release of the video to her 9.1 million Instagram followers on Tuesday.
Her collaboration with Cassel is not the first time she has delved into the world of cinema, as her upcoming record features Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg on its final song – titled No One Lasts Forever.
The Cambridge-born star also enlisted filmmaker Martin Scorsese, as well as musician John Cale and fashion designer Marc Jacobs to pose for the cover of Music, Fashion, Film – tying its three focal themes together.
Her new music follows her Wuthering Heights companion album to Emerald Fennell’s film of the same name earlier this year, as well as her film The Moment.
The mockumentary, which was released in January, is a semi-fictional look at the launch of her Brat album, the cultural phenomenon it sparked, and the world tour that followed.
Charli has also appeared in other film projects this year including Pete Ohs’s Erupcja and Julia Jackman’s 100 Nights Of Hero.
