Timothee Chalamet and Selena Gomez will star in an animated intergalactic romantic comedy, it has been announced.

The Marty Supreme star will voice an introverted rocket mechanic who lives a quiet life alone, while the Only Murders In The Building actress will play a brilliant astro-botanist who is developing the world’s first-ever plant-fuelled rocket in the upcoming film Not Alone.

The movie will be made by Illumination, the studio behind Minions, Despicable Me and the Super Mario Bros films.

When Chalamet’s Joe and Gomez’s Fran are brought together to prepare for the inaugural launch of the revolutionary rocket, there are immediate sparks, but neither is particularly adept at romance.

Life becomes more complicated when three aliens take refuge in Joe’s home.

The aliens – called Dunk, Welly and Shirm – will be voiced by Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon, Motherland star Diane Morgan and Stath Lets Flats actor Jamie Demetriou.

The trio are on the interplanetary run from a zealous-yet-inept officer of the law named Zandro, voiced by Ted Lasso star Brett Goldstein, and determine that Fran’s rocket could provide their means of getting back home to safety.

The West Wing star Allison Janney and New Girl actor Lamorne Morris will also join the voice cast.

It will be directed by Eric Guillon, the co-director of Despicable Me 3 and the designer of Despicable Me and Minions, as well as Claire Dodgson and Jonathan Del Val.

Not Alone will be released in UK and Irish cinemas in April 2027.
