Myles Smith admits he’s ‘at my limit’ ahead of debut album’s release

Myles Smith has admitted he is “at my limit” after facing personal struggles ahead of the release of his debut album.

The British singer’s album My Mess, My Heart, My Life will be released on Friday.

However, Smith, 28, has detailed having mixed feelings about it.

Posting a video on Instagram, he said: “I’ve been debating making this video for probably the past month now.

“It’s been another sleepless night. I don’t really know how to talk about this. My debut album out in two days and everyone tells you it’s supposed to be the most exciting and amazing time in your life but for me it’s been quite a different story.

“It’s been really tough – it’s been the best and worst time of life. Back home I have some stuff going on and some people really close to me are going through some quite bad health things at the moment and it’s been to and from drives to doctors all over the country and waiting for results.”

The singer then said he had found it “super difficult” to balance this with his professional commitments that included “flying all over the world”.

“I am struggling to get through. You might have noticed I may not be as on the ball as I usually am or the effort coming out doesn’t seem as high,” he said.

“The time I take for stuff hasn’t been the same but that’s because it hasn’t really been a priority, but home has been. It’s been such a conflicting feeling as I’ve worked on this and towards it for so long.

“But balancing being an artist, friend, brother, role model… it’s all sort of hit the roof at the same time and I am trying to navigate that.”

He added: “I guess the point of this video is that I don’t want to live in a world where people don’t share openly about how they are feeling or what they are going through.

“I’ve had a lot of messages that of course come from frustration and annoyance, internally and externally to me and not many people know what is going on. It was a trait of mine growing up that I didn’t really let people in and I am trying to break that.”

Smith then said he was excited for his album to be released and wanted it to “do well and for people to hear it and connect with it”. However, he added: “I am at my limit, and do I know how to navigate this? Absolutely not.”

The video came after Smith also shared a statement on Instagram which he captioned: “Despite over a billion streams and getting to travel the world singing songs, I remain fundamentally unconvinced that anyone likes me.

“As a result, my debut album comes out this week, and I would appreciate it if you bought a vinyl. Not because I need the validation. But because I absolutely, categorically, definitely need the validation.”

The statement then saw Smith admit he felt “nervous” rather than “calm or accomplished”.

“Because this album isn’t really a collection of songs. It’s my therapy notes, old memories, relationships, insecurities, heartbreaks, mistakes and all the moments that shaped me somehow finding their way into music,” he said.

“I think when people see streams, sold-out shows and incredible opportunities, it’s easy to assume the self-doubt goes away. Mine definitely hasn’t. If anything, putting out an album that means this much somehow makes me feel even more vulnerable.”

He added: “But if there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the last couple of years, it’s that none of this belongs to me anymore. These songs have become yours too. And knowing some of you might hear your own lives in these stories makes all of the fear worth it.”

Smith is best known for his 2024 singles Stargazing and Nice to Meet You.

He received three nominations at the 2025 Brit Awards and also won the Rising Star award.
