Armie Hammer has admitted he would have resorted to doing a “cat food commercial” to return to acting.

The 39-year-old actor did not get any job offers for five years and has said he was desperate to lock in any work.

Hammer saw his career derailed in 2021 following a series of accusations of sexual abuse and misconduct made against him, which he vehemently denied.

In 2023, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office decided not to charge Hammer over the allegations.

“I would have done a f****** cat food commercial. I just wanted to work again,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.

In 2024, Hammer received an email from German filmmaker Uwe Boll offering a part in the film Citizen Vigilante, which will be released this month.

“I’m pretty sure I cried,” he said.

“It was just this moment where I was like: I’m going to get to do the thing that I love more than anything – other than my children.”

However, Hammer said he was concerned he could not remember how to act.

“I was scared shitless until the moment Uwe said action for the first time. And then I was like – ‘Wait. I do know how to do this.’ There’s a reason I had the success I had.”

Since Citizen Vigilante was filmed, Hammer has worked on three more low-budget films – Western Frontier Crucible, thriller Night Driver and a film in Bulgaria which is yet to be announced.

However, he no longer has an agent, manager or personal publicist and is instead represented by a single entertainment attorney whose primary job is contracts.

Speaking about his public fall from grace, Hammer admitted he “made these problems for myself”.

He said: “This didn’t happen to me by a fluke accident. I didn’t do what people are saying I did. But I brought very dangerous and unsafe people into my life, and I pissed off people in my life – and here we are.”
