Cork-born Bambie Thug will represent Ireland at Eurovision this year with the song Doomsday Blue.

The artist, from Macroom in Co Cork, will now travel to Malmö, Sweden in May, where Ireland will compete in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, bidding to qualify for the grand final on May 11th.

Speaking just after the show, Bambie Thug said: "I don’t know how I feel – I feel incredible! My words are gone… as a lyricist you’d think I’d have more to say but I’m speechless – I’m so excited and I promise I’m going to do you so proud."

The performer has already amassed over 45,000 monthly listeners via their unique, self-styled “Ouija Pop”.

Known for incredible live performances, Bambie was most recently seen performing at the packed-out Download Festival Debut.

Bambie is also prolific songwriter with amassed streams of 60 million on music written for other artists of varying genres, (Cassyette, Kidbrunswick, Fabich, Fika and more), instrumentals in some of the UKs biggest nu-gen hits (Dear Goth, Petrichor, 4am) and inclusion on HBO’s Sex And The City reboot Just Like That.

Bambie saw off competition from five other finalists on a special edition of the Late Late Show, all hoping to get Ireland to the Eurovision final for the first time in four years.

It was one of the most eclectic mix of song options, but it was Bambie that secured the public's vote.
