The attack took place at 9 pm on Thursday when the pensioners were at their home in Ballincrokig in Dublin Pike.

The group had previously protested outside City Hall in April, but Ms Lewis said that since then “nothing has changed except for the amount of traffic coming into Kilcully has gotten worse”.

Land acquisition for the Kilcully/Upper Glanmire Pedestrian Safety Scheme is expected to be completed in mid 2025. 

“That now has to go ahead as quickly as possible for everyone’s benefit in the area.”

Cork City Council officials provided confirmation to Green Party councillor Oliver Moran that the council has appointed a valuer to progress land acquisition for the Kilcully pedestrian safety scheme.

The residents presented a petition to Lord Mayor Kieran McCarthy, who promised to hand it over to the executive.

CORK City Council is planning to expand St Catherine’s Cemetery in Kilcully to create more plots in the city.

A 34-year-old Cork man was jailed for smashing headstones at Kilcully graveyard in Cork following a lengthy investigation.

THE Kilcully Community Action Group has said it is disappointed more councillors have not contributed money from their ward funds to assist families affected by the extensive damage done at Kilcully graveyard at the start of the year.
