Clubbers: Cosmic Disco Party welcome OneCanChan to Dali for their maiden Cork appearance
A great weekend of nightlife awaits in Cork.
The alias of Aimee Chan, she’s an advocate for inclusivity in clubbing culture and co-founder of Dublin’s Shimmer, a FLINTA collective who have helped foster an inclusive platform for emerging artists and dancers alike, championing the kind of spaces that first inspired them and fostering a community around that.
Chan’s journey in DJ-ing is inspired by her experiences of Dublin’s clubbing scene. Seeing Octave One was the moment where she decided to take up DJ-ing. Since then Chan has played at Foxgluv, HONEYPOT, Club Comfort and Dublin Modular and has had mixes broadcast on Dublin Digital Radio and Refuge Radio Berlin. More recent highlights include playing the White Claw stage at Electric Picnic for the second time, warming up along with Collie for Basement Jaxx in May, supporting Overmono, and sharing bills with Moving Still and Caribou drummer Coy Haste.
OneCanChan comes to Cork straight from their appearance at the Beyond the Pale festival in Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, last week, bringing their blend of Italo-leaning grooves, acid-drenched jackin’ house, and deep, rolling grooves. Funksmack’s Mark Grace and PatFeelgood are on support and the ridiculously cheap €5.50 early bird tickets have sold out but there may be a limited number left on the door.
In Dali on Saturday (June 20), after their Pokemon-inspired party last month, Machina continue the video game theme with Animal Crossing (Freak Mode setting).
But if the weather is good, Connolly’s will be the place to be. On Saturday, Jenny Greene returns for a special day-into-night party across both the outdoor and indoor stages, which kicks off at 6pm. Tickets for that are €36.50, including booking fee. But really, the event to be at, and on the longest day of the year, is the West Cork Reggae Fest Vol. 2. Kicking off at 3pm on Sunday, June 21, and running until 11pm, it is a full day of roots, rhythm and summer energy. Curated by Etéreo Sounds, the boutique record label and production team, this is a carefully built lineup designed for deep grooves, conscious vibrations and serious dancefloor movement from start to finish.
And what a line up! Hosted by Guadalupe’s finest, and long-time Cork resident, Gwada Mike, who will be the selector between the acts, it features such great acts as one-time Cork resident Cian Finn, much-loved live dubby grooves outfit Wiggle, and mighty soundsystem veterans Revelation Sound. The lineup will be completed by Blackturf, Ta Seti Sound, a yet-to-be-announced special guest and DMac Burns. DMac Burns is the alias of Etéreo Sounds’ Danny McDonald. A native New Yorker, he relocated to West Cork in 2022, where he connected with Buenos Aires-born keyboardist and dub specialist Matías Saldivia. Bonding over their shared love of roots reggae and dub, the pair developed a distinctive live sound built around looping, live dubbing, melodica, bass, keys and guitar layered over heavyweight rhythms. DMac Burns’ own music blends reggae, dub, r&b and indie rock into heartfelt, lyrically rich songs rooted in groove and atmosphere. Tickets are €25 + booking fee. Everything will be irie!
