A temporary online radio service broadcasting from TEST SITE on Coal Quay on Midsummer weekends, Radio Solstice ties together an eclectic selection of artists, musicians and DJs to make music that celebrates the long evenings.

Winter Journey

An ambitious reinterpretation of Franz Schubert’s much-loved song cycle ‘Winterreise’ will take place on a walk around the historic Shandon area of the city’s northside on Saturday June 15 and Sunday 16. Among the performers are: JFDR, Gavan Ring, Gary Beecher, Lina Andonovska, Outsiders Ent., Neil O’Driscoll, Peter Power, Rachael Lavelle, Ciara O’Leary Fitzpatrick, Johnny McCarthy, and Bláithín MacGabhann

Saturday June 15 is the first of two dates curated by Cork/Berlin composer ELLLL, headlined by dub-dance psychedelic trio Holy Tongue, with Mayfield man Dan Walsh’s FIXITY troupe and surprise DJs in tow; while Sunday June 16 sees cellist, composer, and improviser Okkyung Lee joined by US pianist, composer, producer and artist Jasmine Wood, with support from harpist Méabh McKenna.

Friday June 21, curated by Emer Yip for Northside arts centre Sample-Studios, sees post-punk supergroup Cindytalk (members of This Mortal Coil, Zu and Spiritualized) joined by Cork-based duo Howlbux, composer Irene Buckley and Elaine Howley; while Saturday June 22 sees Moscow synth-popper Kate NV take to stage, with support from US sound-artist and NTS radio resident Felisha Ledesma…

The New Blood

  • Friday June 21 & Saturday 22; Live at St Luke’s and nearby venues; €20

St Luke’s Cross gears up for the first ever New Blood weekender, putting a direct festival spotlight atop the heads of a new generation of Leeside musicians, ready to stake their claim and showcase their art. Friday June 21 sees the first of two ticketed showcases happening at Live at St Luke’s, featuring indie-pop soloist Ezra Williams, ‘bitch-wave no-punks’ I Dreamed I Dream, and singer-songwriter Rua Rí.

Saturday June 22 kicks off with free gigs around the St Luke’s area, with sets from Eternal Youth, Eternal Beauty (Cork Coffee Roasters, 3pm), Luke O’Neill (St Luke’s Wine Tavern, 4.30pm), Gerron (Henchy’s, 6pm), and AbbieLee (Henchy’s, 10.30pm); while a second ticketed showcase at Live at St Luke’s spotlights Pebbledash, The Cliffords, and The Love Buzz.
