And now to some lively shows coming up in county Cork venues. A golden Keane oldie at the Glen Theatre in Banteer next Sunday and Monday. The Rain At The End Of The Summer was premiered by the Southern Theatre Group, first at Dublin’s Gaiety in the summer of 1967, then at our own Opera House, before it went on tour around the country.

The strong Cork cast included Dermot Crowley, Michael Twomey, Abbey Scott, Mairin Morrish, and Eilish McSweeney, with James N. Healy as the domineering parent of a family falling apart.

Given Banteer’s expertise in Keane productions (remember their Many Young Men of Twenty?) this one has got to be seen. “It’s a play very relevant in today’s society,” says producer Tadgh O’Keeffe. March 17/18 at 8pm, Bookings: 029 56239 or 087 755 8752.

In Aghada, Hubcap Theatre is presenting The Parish on Saturday, March 23, as a fundraiser for Corkbeg AFC in Whitegate.

“Our clubhouse and shop were badly damaged by Storm Babet in October,” says Jim Reaney, chairman of Corkbeg AFC.

The fundraiser offered by the kindness of Hubcap, with the assistance of Aghada Community Theatre Group.

Seats are going like hot cakes, apparently, so if you haven’t got yours, hurry up! 8pm start, and there is free parking alongside the community centre. See www.gr8events.ie.

Also on March 23, the West Lodge Hotel just outside Bantry will play host to Killarney Theatre Company presenting a very topical play, Stones. A beautiful valley is about to be ruined by development. Sheep farmer Dan, and nutty English professor, Conrad, set out to save the countryside, but just how far will the dynamic duo go to stop the wind turbines and destruction?

From Glengarriff playwright, Ray O’Sullivan who brought you The Rise and Rise of the Healy-Raes, A Papal Blessing, and Weight Watching. Tickets from hotel reception (027-50360/ westlodgehotel.ie) or on Eventbrite.ie.
