Glanmire 2-11 Liscannor 0-3

Glanmire retained their AIB Munster Ladies Football Senior B championship title after a comprehensive win over Liscannor at Mallow on Saturday.

The defending champions never looked like losing this one as they controlled the game from start to finish, with some outstanding displays over the hour.

Defensively Michelle Barry and Ellen Twomey led by example and up front the likes of Aishling McAllen, Orlaith Roche and Niamh McAllen were in top form.

Roche was involved in a lot of their scores and it was no great surprise to see her named Player of the Game afterwards.

Roisin Considine opened the scoring for Liscannor in the second minute, in a move that she started and finished to put the Clare side in front.

Glanmire’s first chance came after five minutes when Olivia McAllen played her sister, Niamh, in but her effort for a goal went narrowly wide.

Considine had a chance from a free to put her side further ahead, but she shot just wide in a low-scoring start.

The Cork side were back on level terms after 12 minutes when Roche disposed a Liscannor defender to point.

Glanmire took the lead three minutes later when Aishling McAllen pointed from a free, to make it 0-2 to 0-1.

A minute later and they had another goal chance, this time Liscannor keeper, Aine Burke, denying Niamh McAllen with a good save.

Another free from Aishling McAllen increased Glanmire’s lead as they started to settle into the game.

A good move, involving Aishling McAllen and Lucy Greene, set up Michelle Barry for Glanmire’s fourth point, to make it 0-4 to 0-1 after 24 minutes.

Glanmire had another goal chance when Greene passed to Niamh McAllen, but again Burke came to Liscannor’s rescue.

The Cork side were starting to dominate, and Ava McCarthy stretched their lead further.

With two minutes to half time Glanmire’s Cork star, Abbie O’Mahony pointed, with Aishling McAllen adding another to make it 0-7 to 0-1.

Considine got her and her side’s second point to reduce the deficit as they trailed by 0-7 to 0-1 at half time.

Two minutes into the second half and Glanmire had another goal chance with Roche bursting forward. But she shot straight at the Burke with the goal at her mercy.

Glanmire kept the pressure on, with Aishling McAlllen increasing their lead from another free after 34 minutes.

She pointed another free to stretch their lead further before Liscannor had their first goal chance.

Considine played Marie Egan in, but she shot narrowly wide from a tight angle, to see it remain 0-9 to 0-2.

Roche pointed for Glanmire before Maria Fitzgerald pulled a point back for Liscannor to make it 0-10 to 0-3 after 40 minutes.

It took until the 54th minute for the next score to come and it was a crucial one for the winners as Aishling McAllen found the back of the net, after good work by Roche.

It became even more crucial as they were reduced to 13, with Olivia McAllen and Clodagh O’Donovan both sin-binned within the space of a minute.

But despite being down to 13 for the last few minutes, Glanmire continued to dominate, with Aoife Treacy getting their second goal, to make it 2-10 to 0-3.

O’Mahony rounded off the scoring as Glanmire ran out comprehensive winners as they retained their title. There is no All-Ireland series at Senior B level so this was both sides' last game of the season.
