Grattan B cruised into the second round of the Saxone Cup after a comprehensive 7-0 victory over Bweeng Celtic at O’Neill Park.

It was a scintillating team performance from this Grattan B side who dominated for most of the tie as well as took their goals in a very clinical manner.

True to form, the cup tie delivered an electric opening with both teams trading early blows, but Grattan powered their way in front when Robert Sheehan’s low cross arrived for Gary Coughlan to slam home the opener from inside the box.

Then, Gary Coughlan assisted this time when he found Don Broderick in space to force a solid near post save from Noah Kelly.

Another chance arrived for Grattan B, but from Richie O’Hare’s cross Stephen Harris headed over near goal.

Grattan B were really impressive in these early exchanges and from Aaron O’Donoghue’s pass, Shayne Clarke forced Kelly to make a low save from his effort.

Bweeng developed a neat move that ended with Patrick Spillane firing low at Tomas Martin, but Grattan B doubled their advantage with a replica of the first goal – Rober Sheehan picked Gary Coughlan out to slam home his second on 15 minutes.

Robert Sheehan was accorded another chance, but fired wide before Clarke drilled straight at Kelly.

Then, it took a top-drawer tackle from Scott McCabe to deny Sheehan an attempt on goal.

Bweeng were being completely over run in midfield and fell further behind when Shayne Clarke’s turn-and-strike flew into the top corner to make it now 3-0 on 21.

And when Adrian Duggan unleashed a fine strike from distance, Noah Kelly did well to get his body behind the effort before clearing to safety

Bweeng threatened when Daniel Hickey swivelled before firing over and from Cathal O’Brien’s corner, Christopher Lynch headed over while unattended.

With just seconds to the break though, Shayne Clarke could have made it four, but drilled wide.

With just three minutes into the second period, Grattan B extended their lead – Robert Healy pounced to a Robert Sheehan cross to rifle home from inside the box.

When play shifted to the other end, Jamie Butler was unlucky to see his low effort come back off the upright.

But, it was business as usual back in the Bweeng half as Nigel Walsh was denied by a fine save from Noah Kelly and from the loose ball, Rober Sheehan steered wide.

Grattan had a chance to nose further in front, but following a foul on Nigel Walsh inside the box, Gary Coughlan was denied from the spot by a fine save from Noah Kelly.

A bit of ping-pong occurred inside the box after Nigel Walsh’s delivery from a free-kick arrived and it was Robert Sheehan, who snatched at the loose ball to hammer home from close range - 5-0 on 75.

It was one-way traffic now as Nigel Walsh produced a good finish - he then got a second minutes later to seal an emphatic win.
