Kilmurry mark major milestone as new pitch opens in Crookstown

It was a landmark evening for Kilmurry GAA as the club’s U16s became the first team to line out on the newly completed Crookstown pitch last week.

It was a proud moment that marked both a fresh chapter and a significant achievement for the entire community.

The sense of occasion was unmistakable against Inniscarra in a challenge game. Players, coaches, parents and club volunteers gathered to watch the U16s take those first steps onto the pristine surface.

For the young players involved, it was a privilege; for the club, it was the culmination of years of planning, effort and collective belief.

The new pitch represents a major milestone for Kilmurry, reflecting the ambition and commitment that has driven the project from its earliest discussions to its final touches. 

Countless hours of work — fundraising, organising, coordinating, and sheer physical graft — have gone into bringing the pitch to life. 

The result is a top-class playing surface that will serve generations of Kilmurry teams, from underage to adult, and strengthen the club’s foundations for the future.

This was not the achievement of a small group but of an entire club community pulling in the same direction. 

Volunteers, committee members, coaches, supporters and families all played their part, contributing in ways big and small to ensure the pitch became a reality.

For the U16s, being chosen to christen the new surface added an extra layer of excitement to their outing. 

The first team has now played on the new pitch. The first footsteps have been taken for Kilmurry.
