Youth League Roundup: Goals galore in games between Corkbeg and Lakewood and Wilton and Fermoy

There was goals galore across all Daly Industrial Supplies Cork Youth League’s recently with a 5-5 draw between Corkbeg and Lakewood Athletic in a U19 League 1 fixture and Wilton United and Fermoy drawing four goals apiece in a U17 Premier League game.

I will start with some of the U17 Premier League results, Castleview traveled to Ballyadam and came away with a important one goal victory with a very late effort by Daniel Payton-O’Brien to go top of the table. 

There was drama at the Pat Bowdren Park where Wilton United and Fermoy played out a 4-4 draw. 

Jack Hayes gave Wilton the lead in the 36th minute, however, then Fermoy went 2-1 up with two goals by Aodhan Clifford and Anthony O’Riordan before Alex O’Callaghan levelled the game 2-2 just before half time. 

Clifford added two more goals for Fermoy in the second half to lead 4-2 and looked to take all three points, however, the home side had different ideas with Noah and Alex O’Callaghan striking late for the game to finish level 4-4.

Rockmount traveled to Knockgriffin to play the hosts Midleton and came away with an impressive 6-1 victory. 

Rockmount led at halftime by three goals to nil courtesy of a brace of goals by Colm Murphy and a Cian Ricken effort. 

They increased their lead 4-0 with a Ryan McCarthy effort and then Murphy grabbed his hat-trick to lead 5-0. Pablo Zanz pulled a goal back for the Magpies, however, Alex McGuckin-Hennessy added another goal for Rockmount to see them stay unbeaten.

Carrigaline United made it two wins out of three games with a superb performance to beat Douglas Hall 4-2 at Ballea Park. 

Carrig went two goals to the good through Zinedine Louadah and Sean Auzins, however, the Hall levelled the game 2-2 with efforts from James Kinsella and Rian Searles. 

Carrigaline retook the lead in the 60th minute with a Tadgh O’Flaherty and they sealed the game when Jack Leahy got on the scoresheet to take all three points.

There was absolute triller in the U19 League 1 clash between Corkbeg and Lakewood Athletic in Whitegate. 

It was Cillian Burke who gave Corkbeg the lead 1-0 with a seventh minute strike, however, Charlie Hayes level the game 1-1 in the 20th minute for Lakewood. 

Evan Murphy restored Corkbeg’s advantage 2-1 in the 29 minute, but the game was level again 2-2 two minutes later when Hayes grabbed his second goal of the game. 

Corkbeg went 3-2 up through Jack Mulcahy in the 57th minute, but a Samuel O’Leary penalty and another effort from Hayes gave Lakewood a 4-3 lead. 

Jack McCarthy levelled the game 4-4 for the home side, but O’Leary struck again in the 90th minute to give Lakewood a 5-4 lead. 

Corkbeg then levelled the game 5-5 in the 92nd minute when McCarthy grabbed his second goal of a pulsating game.
