Castleview and Douglas Hall share the spoils in a tough U17 league game at O'Sullivan Park

Castleview and Douglas Hall had to settle for a share of the spoils after they drew 1-1 in a very competitive Daly Industrial Supplies Cork Youth Premier League U17 clash at O’Sullivan Park.

It was Douglas Hall led by one goal to nil at half time courtesy of early goal from Harry Tett in the 9th minute, when he finished in a crowded box after a fine save from the View’s goalkeeper Dara O’Connor saw the ball spill back to him.

The second half was a complete different affair, with the home side, Castleview, having the lion’s share of possession, and they equalised through Colin Crowley to level the game 1-1 in the 86th minute with both teams then having to settle for a point apiece.

The game started at a ferocious pace with both teams in attack mode from the very first whistle and when the first real chance fell to View’s Cody Maher in the seventh minute.

He picked up a loose ball from the edge of the Hall’s box and left fly, but his goal bound effort was deflected narrowly wide. 

The Hall responded immediately and when Rian Searles powerful effort was tipped onto the bar two minutes later by the View’s shot stopper Dara O’Connor, it was Harry Tett who responded the quickest to strike home for his side to lead 1-0. 

The View had a double chance to level the game in the 15th minute.

Firstly, Callum Healy had a powerful strike from the edge of the boxer well saved by the Hall’s goalkeeper Sean O’Reagan-O’Herlihy, however, Cody Maher couldn’t find the target with his follow-up effort. 

The View had another glorious opportunity to level the game five minutes before the break.

Evan O’Brien-Gabriel cut in from the right and when he rounded his defender to cut back the perfect pass for the incoming Healy, but Healy couldn’t get the right connection and his effort sailed over the bar.

The opening 20 minutes of the second half both defences were well on top, however, the View’s substitute Evan Power got sight of goal in the 66th minute and he forced a fine save from the Hall’s O’Reagan-O’Herlihy. 

The Hall’s keeper was busy again ten minutes later when he pushed Healy’s long range effort around his post. 

With time running out the View got their reward for second half dominance with Colin O’Connor scoring at the death to level the game 1-1.
