Cork Hospitals inflicted a first defeat in 12 on runaway leaders Helio Inter after leaving it late to score two dramatic goals in the live match of the week at Gortnaglough Community Park.
The visitors came into the contest knowing a win would virtually wrap up the title. However, a disciplined Hospitals outfit defended in depth and broke with speed allowing Rob Hughes to grab two goals inside the last five minutes before Jose Moreno reduced the deficit in added time.
Arc Rovers 5 Martin Harvey Solicitors 0 ; A Tyrese Raheem double and another from captain Brian Kelly helped the hosts to a 3-0 half-time lead. After Timothy Twomey added a fourth in the 52nd minute, Raheem completed his hat-trick with a fifth in the 82nd minute.
After a Jamie Murphy brace was cancelled out by goals from Adriano and Augusto Cordeiro before the break, the Cow romped to a convincing win with second-half goals from Shaun Teegan (3), Murphy (2), Paul Koffi, Tony O’Reilly and Stephen McCarthy.
Unbeaten ISF Ballyphehane Celtic defeated closest rivals Abbey Business for the second time this season to open up a 12-point lead at the top.
After Ben Ryan’s cross was tucked away by John McLoughlin in the 17th minute, Ryan Constant equalized from a penalty for Celtic on the hour mark. Within four minutes, Ryan turned provider for a second time, setting up Ronan Twomey to edge Abbey in front once again. With the clock ticking down, a rally from the visitors produced late goals from Constant and Jamie Thompson.
The visitors raced into a 3-0 half-time lead through Colm Daly, Sean Holmes and Callan Dempsey before Dempsey extended the lead in the 53rd minute. Aaron Smith netted for the Barbers six minutes later only for Dempsey, Levent Arslan and Jack Murphy to complete a comprehensive win for the away team.
Both teams remain in the bottom three after a scoreless draw at The Regional Park.
Valley lost top spot after conceding four second-half goals to Marvin Ekhosuehi (2), Willa Karuru and Victor Ewuzie despite taking a two-nil lead into the break through Tom Hartnett and Stephen Coughlan.
An own goal and a Ryan Murray penalty separated the teams at half-time in the host’s favour. Murray set up Cillian Carroll for a third within two minutes of the resumption of the second 45 before Alexandre Leonel Peixoto got Celtic off the mark with a 68th-minute reply.
DCT went top after putting the contest to bed in the opening 45 with seven unanswered goals from Luke O’Sullivan and Eoin Field, two apiece, and one each from Robbie Burke, Dean Farrissey, and Nikita Zigunovs. O’Sullivan, Farrissey and Noel Hurley added further second-half goals.
In the Premier Division, Helio Inter Cork moved to within touching distance of a first championship success when Ruben Sarasa fired in the only goal of the game in the 37th minute following a corner against a battling DHF Grangevale at Mayfield Park.
On the grass pitch next door, Martin Harvey Solicitors’ Tomás Sheehan cancelled out Marcos Aurelio and Diego Lopez’s lead goals for DoMA Giants before a second for Lopez looked to have been enough to claim the points with six minutes remaining. However, an added time Ross O’Sullivan’s equaliser tied up the contest.
First-half goals from Paudie Cotter and Dave McGuire and two in the second from Tyrese Raheem and Mohamed Abbada got Arc Rovers back to winning ways against Doolan’s Cow.
First Division leaders ISF Ballyphehane Celtic scored nine for the second time in three days through Ryan Constant (3), Ryan Towler and Jamie Thompson, two apiece, Amir Khorchani and Alan Murphy against Jay Bazz Barbers who had Adam O’Flynn, Dylan Keane and Kyle McNamara on the scoresheet in the second half.
In the Second Division, DCT closed the gap on leaders Valley Rangers with goals from Nikita Zigunovs and Steven Murphy in a two-nil win over ePower while Valley Rangers lost out 3-1 to AI FC after going behind to a 3rd minute John Noonan opener.
Second-half goals from sub Emeka Mbudinma, Alvin Johnson and Charles Osayi clinched the points. Pfizer FC also defeated Co. Council 3-1 courtesy of goals from Billy Kadima, Sean Buckley and Timothy Healy.
