Big crowd expected as Castlehaven meet Clonakilty in Carbery U21 final

The Clóna Milk Carbery U21 A football championship final brings together two familiar rivals this Sunday as Castlehaven and Clonakilty meet in Sam Maguire Park, Dunmanway, at 3.30pm. 

The expectation is that this decider will draw a strong crowd, helped by the long-standing edge between the clubs and the quality of young players on show.

Both sides arrive with momentum. Clonakilty have come through two tough assignments, seeing off O’Donovan Rossa and Dohenys, while Castlehaven accounted for Newcestown and Carbery Rangers.

Clonakilty’s run has been built on a lively, energetic style of play. Aaron Cullinane has been central, linking play and carrying the ball with purpose. Ben Coffey and Des Kenneally have also been key, while Darragh Gough and Jack Byerley offer pace and work rate. 

Dylan Harrington has been one of their most reliable performers, and Tom Whooley continues to develop into a strong all-round option who can influence the game.

Clon’s strength is in their balance. They move the ball quickly, they press well, and they have enough scoring options to trouble any defence at this grade.

Castlehaven have been physically strong, organised, and clinical when chances have come. 

Donal O’Callaghan and William O’Donovan have led from the front in defence while Niall O’Callaghan gives them drive and accuracy around midfield. The Maguire brothers, Micheál and Eoin, have been central in attack.

Castlehaven’s semi-final victory over Carbery Rangers was a good test of their resilience, but they produced a very slick performance. 

With local interest high, a strong venue, and two squads packed with players who will feature at senior level or have already featured, this has all the ingredients of a proper West Cork final. 

It should be competitive, lively, and full of the kind of edge that comes naturally when Castlehaven and Clonakilty meet.
