Cork Draghunting: Putting on the Style delivers as Munster Puppy Champion at Scartaglen
Putting on the Style, winner of the Munster Puppy Championship at Scartaglen.
A tremendous finish by the aptly named Putting on the Style of Clogheen saw him crowned Munster Puppy Champion at Scartaglen on Sunday.
The Clogheen hound, trained by William Freyne in partnership with his grandson Ryan Duffy, showed all his class to cross the tape ahead of West Cork Lady trained by Danny O’Driscoll of Griffin United.
In a tight finish, the third ticket went to One Day at a Time from the winning kennel, with the Damien Wade-trained Slievemish Queen securing fourth ticket.
The Senior and Senior Maiden Draghunts were won by the Kerry Association again, which begs the question why the Cork Association allows this event to be held annually at this venue.
Over many decades, the Cork Association pride themselves in hosting neutral meetings giving all hounds from various associations a chance of winning and surely the Cork Association must address this issue for their calendar of events next season.
The Senior Championship is really gearing up as we reach the concluding weeks of the season with the consistent Clogheen ace Not now Al back at the summit with a slender one-point lead over the reigning champion Sean T of Griffin United.
In the Puppy Championship, we are witnessing another titanic battle with Mossy’s Diamond of Mayfield leading the charge, but Starlight of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers is in hot pursuit, only trailing by a mere two points.
After six days of intense searching, Mayfield hound Danganmore Tommy was found after going missing at the Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Senior Maiden Draghunt at Watergrasshill. Trainer Marguerite Busteed would like to thank the countless members from various clubs who helped in the search that ended with the hound back in his beloved Mayfield kennel.
