Cork hurling: Shane Tarrant's 2-6 from play the pick of the opening round hauls

Given the two walkovers awarded in the first round of the Divisions/Colleges section in the Cork Premier Senior Hurling Championship, divisional players haven’t impacted the scoring charts to the same effect as they have in the football equivalent, but Muskerry’s Matthew Bradley does top the overall chart after his 1-17 haul in their extra-time defeat to Seandún.

Two points back is Newtownshandrum’s Jamie Coughlan with 1-12, while Alan Connolly and Jack Leahy are tied for third.

It’s Leahy who leads the way from play after notching 2-4 versus UCC, while Seandún’s Dylan Barrett is second with 1-5. Alan Connolly and Cillian O’Callaghan are currently tied for third.

At Senior A, Richard Sweetnam leads with 0-11 after a strong first-round haul for Courceys in their draw with Ballinhassig, while Castlelyons’ Alan Fenton sits a point behind after notching 0-10 versus Blarney, while Fermoy’s Fionn Lardner is third.

The from play chart is spearheaded by Killeagh’s Barry Walsh, who grabbed 1-4 in their opening round win against Fermoy, while Fermoy’s Ben Twomey sits 10th from play, giving him a fifth top ten appearance to go with the four he’s got so far in the football charts. Watergrasshill’s Adam Murphy is second in the from-play table after scoring 0-6 in the opening round.

At Premier Intermediate level, Shane Tarrant leads from play after grabbing 2-6 for Aghabullogue, while clubmate Bradley appears ninth in the overall chart.

Tarrant's total, every score of it from play, leaves him joint-second overall behind Chris O'Leary, whose 0-13 for Valley Rovers was the largest haul across the opening weekend in the third tier. Ballincollig’s Stephen Wills is the man tied with Tarrant for second.

Kilworth’s Will Condon takes second in the from-play table, while Castlemartyr’s Billy McGann is third ahead of the second round of fixtures next weekend.
