Cork hurlers to open with two away Munster Championship games in 2027

For the third season in a row, Cork are set to begin their Munster SHC campaign with an away clash against the reigning All-Ireland champions.

The draft fixtures for the 2027 provincial championship follow the pattern of recent times, where the first set of matches from the previous year becomes the fifth set, with each other round moving forward in the schedule. However, a rejigging of the middle order does mean that Cork must contend with away trips in both of their opening assignments.

In 2026, Cork began away to Tipperary in what was a repeat of the 2025 All-Ireland final - the Rebels will host the Premier County at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the last round of games next year, meaning that the Limerick, Cork's second opponents this year, provide the opposition for the opener.

TUS Gaelic Grounds in Limerick will host the Shannonsiders' first championship match since regaining the Liam MacCarthy Cup with victory over Galway last month. 

Based on the existing calendar, that will be the second-last weekend in April, though there is the potential for altering the footprint of the hurling season, with varying proposals set to be discussed.

In the round-robin era, Cork won their first trip to the Treaty City, in 2019 - Limerick's first outing since regaining the All-Ireland after a 45-year wait - while there was a one-point defeat in 2023, meaning Cork failed to qualify for the All-Ireland series, and then a 16-point loss in 2025, though that result was soon forgotten as Cork won on penalties when the counties met at the same venue in the Munster final three weeks later.

Next year, the second weekend will be Cork's 'bye round', meaning a fortnight's break until the second match, against Clare at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg. That third set of fixtures is split across two weekends so as to ensure that no county plays three weeks in a row - it means that Cork will have another two-week gap before their first home match, the visit of Waterford to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.

Round 1: Limerick v Cork, Tipperary v Waterford.

Round 2: Clare v Tipperary; Waterford v Limerick.

Round 3: (Separate weekends): Clare v Cork (first); Tipperary v Limerick (second).

Round 4: Cork v Waterford, Limerick v Clare.

Round 5: Cork v Tipperary, Waterford v Clare.
