Conor Corbett suffers suspected cruciate injury in major blow

Cork footballer Conor Corbett has suffered a suspected cruciate ligament injury, The Echo understands.

The talented forward sustained the setback on Wednesday while lining out for his club. 

He had been influential for Clyda Rovers in their McCarthy Insurance Group SAFC Group 3 Round 1 clash with neighbours Kilshannig in Charleville, where he kicked 1-3 in a narrow 2-13 to 2-11 defeat.

The injury occurred after 25 minutes when Corbett finished off a flowing move and buried the ball into the net, but he landed awkwardly as he fell to the ground. 

Although he continued after receiving treatment, it is suspected that he has once again suffered the dreaded cruciate ligament injury — the same blow he endured in 2021 and 2024.

It is devastating news for the player himself. The North Cork attacker has endured a torrid run of injuries since captaining the Cork minors to All-Ireland glory in 2019, and while this is undoubtedly a setback for Rebels boss John Cleary, it represents an even more seismic loss for Clyda Rovers. 

Corbett had been building strong form and remains one of the club’s most important scoring threats, making the timing of the injury particularly cruel.

The Avondhu outfit face Éire Óg next in their championship group before taking on Bishopstown, and they must now prepare for those fixtures without one of their marquee forwards.
