Dara Sheedy’s return to the Cork starting team for the 0-17 to 1-13 win over Donegal was one of the most encouraging aspects of a result that pushed the Rebels into an All-Ireland SFC quarter-final the weekend after next.
But the sight of him being withdrawn with a slight knock also underlined how important he has already become to Cork’s attacking structure.
For someone who only made his senior debut in January, his influence is striking, and Cork will hope he is fully right for their next outing at Croke Park.
Sheedy’s rise has been one of the defining positives of Cork’s season. He carries the ball with intent, commits defenders, and links the middle third with the inside line in a way that gives Cork something different.

His return to the starting team in Ballybofey was a boost, but the weeks he missed since April had already shown how much Cork rely on him to give their attack shape and purpose.
Against Donegal, Sheedy showed the same sharpness that made him such a standout earlier in the year. Sheedy stretches defences, creates space for others, and brings a fearlessness that lifts those around him.
Now, with Cork safely through to the quarter-finals the weekend after next, the focus is on recovery, rhythm, and sharpening the overall game that will be needed at Croke Park. The Donegal win was a statement of resilience and maturity, but Cork know they will need more again.

The extra week’s break is valuable, especially for someone like Sheedy, who has been managing his way back to full sharpness.
For someone so new to senior football, he has already become central to how Cork want to play.
