Division 1 reports:

Uibh Laoire have moved another step forward to successive promotions after edging out Ballincollig on what was another entertaining weekend of McCarthy Insurance Group Football League action.

It was Round 7 with just two more games remaining, with the promotion race and relegation battle hotting up in all of the seven divisions.

In the top tier, there were wins for Éire Óg, Castlehaven and Douglas while Newcestown – Knocknagree and St Finbarr’s – Clonakilty couldn’t be separated.

Reports on four of those games are attached to the top of this article.

Uibh Laoire are in the box seat to fill one of the two promotion spots from Division 2 after another impressive victory.

John McNulty’s charges won away at Ballincollig, despite two championship grades between the teams. Uibh Laoire won 2-13 to 1-13 with Cathal Vaughan kicking 1-4 while Ian Jones hit 1-1.

The team in red and white are top by three points with 12, three ahead of Carrigaline, Clyda Rovers and Dohenys.

Carrigaline are second due to a better scoring difference and they have a game in hand too on the rest. The Carrigdhoun outfit proved too strong for hosts St Michaels, 3-18 to 1-8.

Niall Coakley, Éanna Desmond and Kevin O’Reilly were among the many scorers for Carrigaline with Jack Connolly landing a two-pointer right at the end to put the cherry on the cake.

Clyda Rovers made people stand up and take notice of them after an eye-catching 3-10 to 0-18 victory over Dohenys in Dunmanway.

It had looked like Dohenys would take the spoils, but a last-gasp goal from Ben O’Connor after a Kevin Graham long delivery ensured the away team won by a single point.

Graham was hugely influential overall with 2-1. Cian O’Sullivan also with 0-4.

In Division 3, the two sides in the promotion places at the start of the weekend fell to perhaps surprise defeats as the battle intensifies for promotion.

Despite leading by a point at the break, Bishopstown lost 1-14 to 0-14 at home to relegation threatened Kilshannig.

Brian Cuthbert’s team remain the outright leaders with ten points. Kieran Twomey and Jack Twomey did the bulk of the scoring for the winners with 0-4 each while Colm O’Shea bagged the goal.

Despite having Ray Keane back on the sideline for the first time this year, Aghabullogue were beaten in Coachford by Naomh Abán on a scoreline of 1-9 to 0-9.

A late Daniel Kelly goal proved decisive as they now go level with Aghabullogue on nine points.

Kanturk are also on the same points tally after goalkeeper Ronan Cashman proved to be the hero in a 2-11 to 1-13 triumph over Mallow away from home.

Cashman, who ended up with 1-5, including two orange flags and a 45, kept his cool to tuck away a penalty in the closing stages.

Finally, in Division 5, Denis Reen is getting a tune out of Mitchelstown. They are now the outright leaders with eleven points and have a game in hand on the chasing pack.

They made the long journey down to Bantry Blues and beat the hosts in what turned out to be a cracker, 5-16 to 2-18.

It did help that the Avondhu side had Cork footballers Cathail O’Mahony and Seán Walsh available.

O’Mahony hit 4-1 in a devastating display as he reminded everyone of his quality. Walsh – fresh from an effective cameo for the Rebels against Meath – landed 1-8 for the Town.
