Knocknagree recorded their third victory of this McCarthy Insurance Group Cork Football League Division 1 campaign following what was a very impressive display at Ovens.

John Fintan Daly’s Knocknagree side played some excellent football with some fabulous score-taking. The visitors got off to the most perfect of starts when Denis R O'Connor rifled the ball into the roof of the net in the opening minute.

Éire Óg opened their account with a Colm Clifford point, which was followed up by well taken Conor McGoldrick effort.

Knocknagree were playing very much in a flow state in the opening quarter, with O’Connor on song, which along with a David O’Connor effort, saw the visitors lead 1-5 to 0-4 after 10 mins.

Brian Thompson and Ronan O’Toole reduced the deficit but there was no let-up from Knocknagree. As the first half ticked towards the conclusion, Anthony O’Connor and Matthew Dilworth got in on the scoring act.

After a scintillating opening half of football, Knocknagree held the advantage at 1-11 to 0-8.

The second half played out in a similar fashion, with Knocknagree showing they can be a footballing machine.

Anthony O’Connor slotted over an early point for the visitors shortly after the restart. Then the second goal of the night arrived for Knocknagree, when Michael McSweeney found the back of the net.

At the 45-minute mark approaching, Knocknagree led 2- 14 to 0-8, with O’Connor and McSweeney adding to their totals.

Éire Óg, to their credit, refused to buckle and continued to search for a route back into the contest, with Colm Clifford working well to split the posts.

Knocknagree were not taking their foot off the accelerator, with Gearoid Looney, Tadc O’Mahony and David Twomey also making a scoring contribution.

Before the full-time whistle was blown, there was still time for Knocknagree to find the back of the net for a third time.

Denis R O’Connor capped off a fine individual performance with another Knocknagree goal, clinically finishing to the bottom corner.

Next up in league action for Éire Óg is an away trip to face Carbery Rangers on May 24. The same day will see Knocknagree travelling to take on Newcestown.
