It’s not remarkable for Nemo Rangers to have a positive scoring difference after four rounds of Division 1 of the McCarthy Insurance Group Football League.

Games against Douglas, Cill na Martra, St Finbarr’s and Knocknagree have seen the Trabeg side score six points more than they have conceded. It’s a tally bettered only by Newcestown and Carbery Rangers – however, Nemo are on just two points, with the win over Douglas followed by three defeats by the minimum.

They will look to get back to winning ways when they host Éire Óg tonight. Naturally, their narrow defeats could easily have gone the other way, not least the loss at Knocknagree last Sunday week, as manager Robbie O’Dwyer is aware.

“I just think we're just not closing out games,” he says.

“We've been competitive, we've been in the mix at the end and just things haven't gone our way like but that's part and parcel of it. We need to pick ourselves up and get on with it.

“We had chances at the end, Bryan Hayes could have kicked a two-pointer, Ross Corkery had a chance to equalise and we didn't take them.

“Fair play to Knocknagree, they won and that’s it.”

The Nemo team that started against Knocknagree featured ten of those saw game-time in the county final loss to St Finbarr’s, but just six starters.

Developing a squad during the league can result in a setback or two, but the hope is for long-term benefit.

“You want to be building a panel,” O’Dwyer says.

“Last year, we probably were limited enough with the bench, so that's the opportunity we're giving the young fellas to put their hand up.

“A few of them did okay now today but look at the end of the day we're still missing a lot of players.

“In saying that, we've been beaten again, that’s three on the bounce now and it's just a bit worrying from that point of view, but we can only look forward.

“It’s just about getting back to the hard work on the training ground and work on tactics and little things.

“Those little things that didn't work out against Knocknagree but hopefully the next day we'll be better.”
