Bride Rovers stand alone at the top of Division 2 of the RedFM Hurling League as they picked up a third straight win on Thursday night.
The Rathcormac/Bartlemy side – who won Division 3 last year before going on to claim the Co-op SuperStores SAHC – were 1-19 to 1-7 winners at home to Kanturk, who had been unbeaten since their relegation from Division 1.
Ronan O’Connell had the second-half goal for the Rovers while Adam Walsh was his usual reliable self from dead balls.
Also on Thursday, Erin’s Own were 1-19 to 0-10 winners at home to Newcestown, with the goal coming from a Cathal Lenihan free in the second half, at a time when the Caherlag side were 0-14 to 0-9 ahead. They are on four points from two games, with the rescheduled clash against Newtownshandrum taking place on Wednesday night.
The other side relegated from the top flight after last year’s league, Carrigaline, suffered their third defeat of the Division 2 campaign after going down 0-21 to 0-18 to Ballincollig in a hard-fought game on Friday night.
Brian Kelleher was outstanding for the visitors, nailing 0-12, including four from play, and they led 0-6 to 0-3 after a strong start with midfielders Ronan Kelleher and Seán Andrews picking off points.
However, the home side got on top in the second quarter with Fenton Denny and Ross O'Donovan impressive in defence to lead 0-12 to 0-10 at the break.

Up front, Tadhg O'Connell ended up with 0-5 from play while Adam Willis finished with 0-9, four from play. Seán O'Neill put Ballincollig ahead by four points entering injury time but a brilliant David Drake score set up a grandstand finish where a goalbound Kelleher free was stopped to deny Carrrigaline a draw.
On Saturday, Na Piarsaigh had their first win as they overcame Ballymartle by 1-21 to 0-13 while the Newtownshandrum-Valley Rovers game was abandoned due to the treacherous weather conditions.
Blarney are three from three in Division 3 after recoding a 0-20 to 1-12 win away to Lisgoold.
Bandon beat Russell Rovers in a Premier JHC dress-rehearsal, with goals from Mike Cahalane, Kevin Hannon and Conor Calnan in a 4-14 to 1-3 triumph.
