Muskerry GAA chairman Ed Warren says he will give it his best shot in his new role.
The Kilmurry clubman took over from John Feeney last December in the highest and most important position in Muskerry.
Warren is vastly experienced in GAA circles and will no doubt add different things to his new job. He brings a reputation for steady leadership and community focus.
“It’s a great honour for me and for my family as well,” Warren says.
“I’m pretty well steeped in the whole GAA history going back to my playing days with Macroom in football and Aghabullogue in hurling.
“Initially when I got involved with the Muskerry board, I had five years done in the old county juvenile board, five years as juvenile chairman with my newly adopted club Kilmurry and then five years with Rebel Óg.
“I was vice chairman of Muskerry GAA for a good number of years prior to taking on the top position at the end of last year. I know that I have very big shoes to fill. John Feeney was chairman and he’s now secretary.

“Over the 100 years of Muskerry GAA, I’m actually the 18th chairman, that tells the fantastic history that we have had with some brilliant people from day one.
“We’ve had some outstanding people that have been in roles, some of them role models for me.”
Muskerry GAA have continued to go from strength to strength in recent years and Warren is keen to keep the ball rolling in the right direction.
“We’ve a really good board put together for this year. Liam Cotter, a very old personal friend of mine, but steeped in administrative work has now taken over as vice chairman.
“Michael Dilworth has come in as our PRO and already he has just completely changed the website and everything to do with it. We have 11,500 hits on Instagram and the followers have increased on all social media platforms.
“We’re going to be busy from now on, the leagues are already underway and then you will have the championships starting straight after that. I’m ready and we’re going to enjoy it. We are all keen to build on the solid foundation already in place.”
Warren is taking it step by step rather than looking too far down the line. His immediate aim is to connect with all the clubs in Muskerry and also to make sure the Muskerry senior teams are ready for the championship season ahead.

“From my own perspective, I suppose there’s things about liaising with clubs that I’d like to get involved more with. I have a plan in my head to get around to the whole 22 clubs by the end of May.
“So when they have either meetings or matches, I intend to get to all the clubs in the division and meet with their officers.
“I don’t know if anybody’s done that previously and it’s not to show up anybody else. It’s just my way of personally showing that all our clubs are important.
“Muskerry is a huge division with 22 clubs and I hope and intend to be able to tell you at the end of May that I’ve completed that journey.
“Also, we want to ensure our Muskerry football and hurling teams continue to make progress. Our footballers have done terrifically well in recent years winning the Tadhg Crowley Cup in 2024 and we have the same management team pretty much on board again.

“The hurling team has surprised us with their progress in the last couple of years. They’ve been very unlucky against a really good Imokilly side over the last two seasons.
“We still didn’t have full availability of all our players and that’s something we will try and improve this year.
“We have met with a couple of the big clubs to ensure participation from their players. We’ve put a lot of time and effort into that in the last month or so. We’ve met with two or three of the bigger clubs to ensure their participation and we think that’s secure. So that being the case, we’re looking forward and I think we’ll be really competitive in both codes again this year.”
