Highfield hosts major tournament for 500 young rugby players

Highfield U10s are looking forward to the Webb Ellis Rugby Festival at Woodleigh Park.

It's a huge weekend on the rugby front as Ireland host Scotland with a shot at Six Nations glory on Saturday.

Over 500 young rugby players from across Munster will be busy at Woodleigh Park in the build-up though, as Highfield RFC hosts 21 clubs across Munster for the U10 Webb Ellis Rugby Festival.

Matches begin at 10.30am on Saturday morning with the festival of rugby with a focus on participation, friendship and sportsmanship running from 9am to 2pm. The event is designed to give young players an opportunity to develop their rugby skills in a fun and inclusive environment.

Organiser, Dave Hayes said it's a great chance for players and clubs across the province to make lasting connections.

The Webb Ellis Rugby Festival is about bringing the rugby community together and giving children the chance to play the game they love in a positive and supportive atmosphere.

"We are thrilled to host 21 clubs and over 500 participants this year and look forward to an exciting day of rugby.

"This event celebrates not just rugby but the sense of community that surrounds the game. We look forward to welcoming teams from across Munster and cheering on the next generation of players."

BACKING

The Highfield Blitz Committee are grateful for the sponsors and volunteers, whose support helps make the festival possible, including Healy Communications, Laser Medical, Corbett Heavy Lift, Inspire Credit Union, Provest, AIB, PharmacyFirstPlus, Sterling, Solarwinds and Stryker.

The festival will follow Irish Rugby Football Union Mini Rugby guidelines, ensuring a format designed for maximum participation and safety for players born in 2016. Each club will provide a referee to support the running of matches, while an Irish Red Cross medical team will be on site to assist with player welfare.

Lunch will be provided for players and coaches during the festival.

Due to the large number of visiting teams and supporters, organisers are encouraging attendees to arrive early and follow guidance from parking volunteers. Bus parking has been arranged at MTU.
