Scoil Mhuire College completed the domestic double as they won the Munster Senior Schoolgirls league title on Wednesday.

A week previously, they won the So Hockey Munster Senior Schoolgirls Cup title by 4-1 at Garryduff.

They took on the same school, Crescent Comprehensive. Limerick, in the league decider, with the game being played at the Limerick side’s pitch.

Scoil Mhuire started the game brightly with some good attacking play from Amy Noonan.

Sofie Moloney and Rebecca O’Connell were hooking up well on the right for them as well.

Crescent, with a big home support, started to come into the game, and it took a great tackle from Grace Kelleher to stop the home side from scoring.

The game was end-to-end with Lilymay Kelleher playing a great ball across, but it was just out of the reach of Anna Martin.

Both defences were playing well and denying their opponents goalscoring chances.

Moloney played an aerial ball into the Crescent circle, with Sophie O’Keeffe just missing the chance to score.

The Cork school were then thankful to their keeper, Isabelle Healy, who made several saves to deny the home side as the first quarter ended nil all.

Katie Burke went close at the start of the second quarter for Scoil Mhuire before they were thankful to Healy again as she denied Eimear Keogh a goal.

Crescent were now growing in confidence, but the first half ended still level at 0-0.

Again, the game was close in the third quarter with both sides having chances to break the deadlock.

However, Crescent were guilty of a few mis-timed tackles that led to players receiving green cards. Lilymay Kelleher and Emma McAuliffe went closest to scoring for Scoil Mhuire as the third quarter ended with the game still scoreless.

Shuttles were now looking like a distinct possibility but Scoil Mhuire had different ideas as they finally broke the deadlock.

A brilliant run from Lilymay Kelleher saw her beat several defenders before hitting a reverse stick shot into the top corner as Scoil Mhuire took the lead.

They added a second soon after when Moloney played Lilymay Kelleher in and her pass was slotted home by Katie Burke to make it 2-0.

Crescent drove forward in search of goals, but Scoil Mhuire kept them at bay, led by Player of the Game Sofie Moloney.
