Galway 3-10 Cork 1-12

A strong final quarter from Galway saw them overcome Cork to record their third victory in a row in the Electric Ireland Minor Camogie Championship at Carnmore.

The Rebels suffered their second loss in the group stage and will need to get back on track to reach the knockout stages.

Aided by the strong wind, Cork got off to a superb start. By the end of the opening quarter, they had four points with Bláithín Cunniffe, Clara Murphy, Lea Meillouin and Lexi Manley all on target.

The Cork defence was strong and they added to their tally through Erin Healy, Meillouin, Murphy, Manley, Leah Hannigan and Cliona Harte, with all six points coming from play to lead 0-10 to no score.

Galway finally opened their account after 31 minutes with an Amy Kenny goal that gave them a huge boost. Cork replied with a Clara Murphy point to lead at the interval, 0-11 to 1-0 but the wind was gale-force.

CLINICAL

Galway made the most of it with four unanswered points, two from Emma Barrett, a Sinead Feeney free and a Mary Brigid Cosgrove effort.

Cork responded on 41 minutes with a Leah Meillouin goal but Galway responded with two points from play from Katelyn Walsh and Cosgrove.

With the elements in their favour, the Galway inside line were getting a plentiful supply and they used it well.

Cosgrove was a thorn in the Cork side as she struck for a goal on 44 minutes, sending a sideline to the net before levelling the game.

She gave Galway the lead for the first time when converting a free before adding two from play.

Emma Barrett had Galway’s third goal on 60 minutes as Lexi Manley converted a free for Cork's second score of the half on a day when weather conditions were a key factor in the result.
