Cork captain Ian Maguire has had his proposed two-match ban following a straight red card he received during last Sunday’s Allianz Division 2 Football League win over Meath reduced to one match, The Echo understands.
Maguire was dismissed in the 56th minute of Cork’s 1-23 to 1-21 victory at Páirc Uí Rinn after an off-the-ball clash with Meath’s Adam O’Neill.
Referee Conor Dourneen cited the offence as “striking with force” in his match report, an infraction that carries an automatic two-match suspension.
The St Finbarr’s man brought his case before the GAA’s Central Hearings Committee on Thursday night.
The decision to reduce the suspension to one match was based on evidence produced.
Cork had been six points clear when Maguire was sent off, and although Meath rallied to close the gap to one, the Rebels held on thanks to a late insurance score from Chris Óg Jones.
It was the Leesiders’ fourth victory from four games in Division 2.
Maguire will miss Cork’s upcoming fixture against Derry on Sunday at Find Insurance Celtic Park (1pm).
